The History of Moab and the San Juan Mountains
Moab, Utah – where Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are just part of the breathtaking red rock landscapes that surround our stunning destination. Here, small-town hospitality combines with the incomparable beauty of nature and the cool waters of the Colorado River. All this makes Moab one of the most sought-after destinations in the American Southwest..
While exploring Moab's unique landscape, take time to relax and enjoy the warm hospitality of this charming resort town. Thanks to its perfect climate, Moab hosts outdoor events and festivals throughout the year.
The downtown business district boasts a range of restaurants, microbreweries, shops, and galleries: whether you're in the mood for regional Southwest cuisine or world-class gourmet fare, Moab's diverse culinary scene is sure to satisfy every palate. And for those looking for a souvenir to remember their visit, downtown shops offer a wide selection of Southwest art and jewelry, T-shirts, and much more.
The San Juan Mountain Range encompasses the southern portion of the Colorado Rockies. Home to numerous rugged volcanic peaks, aquamarine mountain lakes, mineralized rocks, and several waterfalls, this mountain range is home to some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in the country.
Covering an area of 12,000 square miles, there is much to discover in the San Juans. Spanning the Continental Divide, the San Juan Mountains encompass rugged and jagged volcanic peaks, 13 of which are over 14,000 feet high. The mountains were formed when two powerful continental plates pushed against each other and pushed through the Earth's crust.

About Ouray & Telluride
Ouray – known as the “Outdoor Recreation Capital of Colorado,” Ouray is centrally located in southwestern Colorado. Ouray is the perfect base camp for exploring the region and offers a wealth of experiences year-round. Ouray is a mountain community at an elevation of 7,800 feet. Nestled in a geographic bowl surrounded by rugged and steep mountain slopes – rugged 12,000 to 13,000 foot peaks with many mountain streams winding through valleys and canyons before flowing into town.
Telluride is nestled in a canyon surrounded by peaks ranging from 13,000 to 14,000 feet in height. The town is only eight blocks wide and twelve blocks long. Due to its significant role in the history of the American West, the town center of Telluride was declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1964. This classification is the highest given by the United States Department of the Interior for historically significant sites. These sites are special and are clear candidates for national parks.
